Cancel in writing
Several Equinox agreements say cancellation can be made "by certified or registered United States mail" to Equinox - Concierge, One Park Avenue, Mezz. Floor, New York, NY 10016, and that the notice must include your full name, membership ID number and contact information. Use One Park Avenue, not the Hudson Yards address on the contact page.
You can also email [email protected] (or [email protected]) from the email address on file, with the same details. If you are cancelling for a reason like a move or a medical condition, attach the proof.
Equinox agreements say that in a dispute about whether and when notice was received, "Equinox's records will control". Keep your own: a Certified Mail receipt and delivery record.
In person, online, by phone
- In person: fill in a cancellation form and give it to the General Manager or Assistant General Manager at any club in your membership class.
- Online: Equinox's FAQ says you can cancel by logging into your account on equinox.com.
- Phone: only after the Initial Period, by calling Equinox Concierge.
Notice period and the Initial Period
Most agreements need 30 days' written notice after the Initial Period ("your cancellation will go into effect thirty (30) days after Equinox receives your cancellation notice"); a Pennsylvania agreement requires 45 days. Notice periods vary by state.
Standard memberships have a 12-month Initial Period that you cannot cancel early, except for the limited reasons in the agreement: the cooling-off period after joining, death, illness or injury with a doctor's certificate, or a change of residence with proof. After that the membership renews month to month.
Pilates, personal training and spa subscriptions are separate agreements with their own terms.
